Cruise ships in Port

ms-noordam-21st-nov-2016The cruise ship season is gathering momentum with 9 ships due in the New Year. Pacific Jewel steamed in on New Year’s Eve and, with the Christmas holiday crowd, swelling numbers almost wore our shop staff out as visitors lined up out of the door. “The World ”  – the only ship to have more crew than passengers. We still maintained a presence on the wharf for the less than 200 passengers expected.  3 domestic and 4 international ships are still to come this season. Thanks to our volunteers for their hard work! If you would like to volunteer – call Bob at the museum on 64962094.

Margaret a Life Member

marg-sheaves-jack-dickensonMargaret Sheaves looked a little surprised when over 40 guests and friends gathered to celebrate her 80th birthday.  Pinning a life membership badge onto her scarf, Jack Dickenson made a speech about her 25 years of service to the museum.  Jenny Drenkhahn stepped up, presenting her with a lovely bunch of blooms and her certificate.

With great passion she works as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, View, the Eden Singers, SEHGI and the Australia Day Committee. Her fun way of chairing our friends meetings is always memorable.

A pearl beyond price, her hand is constantly raised to help out at the museum.

Joining the Eden singers in a rendition of “Margretta Tread the Grapes with Me” we chuckled as, on her second go at blowing out the candles on her cake, she shared her wish of living on to 100.  A keen bush walker and swimmer we all believe she has a good chance of getting there!

Australia Day Fun Run & Walkathon

Put on your running shoes, slap on the sunscreen and find a suitable Australia Day hat and join in the fun Australia Day activities starting with the Fun run/ Walkathon at the Eden Skate Park, finishing up with a barbeque and then watching the cricket.

The Eden Killer Whale Museum  and the Eden Gym have come up with a great – life be in it – activity to celebrate Australia Day.

Runners, walkers of all ages and levels of fitness are invited to join in and compete in the 5km event starting at the Eden Skate Park then around Lake Curalo and back to the Skate Park. The event begins at 7.30a.m. for registration and runners and walkers head off at 8:00 a.m. sharp.

Prizes and certificates will be awarded to the 1st male and 1st female runners over the line.  In the junior section, for those under 16, the 1st male and 1st female will also pick up awards and certificates. Our seniors are also awarded a prize.

For some colour and inventiveness an award for the best dressed male and female competitor sporting an Australia Day theme costume will ensure loads of fun so hunt up those red, white and blue outfits and let your hair down for just $15 for adults, $10 for juniors, $35 for families and $10 for pensioners entry fee. This event will be a great fund raiser for the Eden Scout Hall mural – the brain child of artist Stanley Squire.

So come along, bring the family, hunt out a fetching costume just for the fun of it and enjoy a healthy event while supporting a great community project to beautify and celebrate Eden.

Entry forms are available early January at the Eden Killer Whale Museum or at this link 2017-walkathon-entry-form, the Eden Gym and the Eden Information Centre.

You’ve got to be in it to win it! So get in and register for this great event and celebrate Australia Day in Eden.
