About 1860. he and his brother opened a double storied general store (next to present museum). As well as a trader, S.Solomon was also a financier and whaler from Snug Cove. He later took over the business, calling it The London Stores.
At 81 Solomon was one of the oldest magistrates in N.S.W. He had amassed great wealth and owned “Merrymingo” station in Victoria.

DEATH On Tuesday, 12th June, 1900, at Sydney, Solomon SOLOMON, of Eden (brother of Charles Solomon, Cooma) at the age of 81 years. A very old resident of Manaro in the person of Mr. Solomon SOLOMON, of Eden, passed away on Tuesday last in Sydney. The deceased gentleman had reached his 81st year and was an elder brother of Mr. Charles SOLOMON, of Cooma.
He came to Buckley’s Crossing 65 years ago, and was subsequently in business at Bunyan and Bombala; and followed pastoral pursuits at Numeralla and Gilgunnia, afterwards purchasing the Merrymingo Station, Victoria.
Subsequently he went to Eden, where he lived for a period of 45 years, his idea at the time being that it would develop into the shipping port for this portion of the colony. While at Eden he amassed a considerable amount of property, and also took part in the whaling industry, having a number of boats.
Mr. SOLOMON was one of the oldest Returning Officers in the colony and acted in this capacity at the time the Eden and Bombala electorates were joined; and was one of the oldest justices of the peace in New South Wales. About a week prior to his decease his wife died at the age of 83 years and this bereavement, it is expected, hastened his end.
Deceased was a native of England, and by his death numbers will lose a good friend. The funeral took place at Rockwood on Wednesday last, the Rev. Mr. Lando officiating at the grave. The greatest sympathy is felt for Mr. Charles Solomon, the deceased being his only brother alive up to Tuesday last.
